An Austen Heroine in Miniature

  • Oct. 1st, 2008 at 9:19 AM
bjd
So here are a few pics of Anais a la Regency. The Spencer is still not quite finished so pics of it will have to wait but the gown and bonnet are done, finally. This was a really easy gown to just fiddle around with, I didn't have much a plan, just sort of tried things as I went.

So which Austen heroine does she look like to you? I'm kinda thinking Marianne Dashwood, she looks a little too dreamy-eyed to be Lizzy.

Thank you! Maybe Anais can be the country cousin to whichever doll gets your Arcadia gown. ;)

We'll have to have a doll regency party!

So cute! She actually makes me think of Catherine Morland more than anyone... very dreamy-eyed. :>

Thank you!

Btw, I heard thru the costuming grapevine you've got a good method for 18th C mits, care to share? I've tried twice to make mits and both times were made of fail.

For the mitts, it's not a totally accurate method, and it requires knitting. http://longrunknitter.blogspot.com/2007/09/taylors-mitts-finished.html I posted the pattern there. Let me know if you have any questions. Someday I want to make a few of these to sell, for the non-knitting inclined, but I haven't had the time as of yet.

It's so lovely! I wish I had the patience to make the doll dresses - I can't even buckle down enough to make my Felicity doll new clothes.

I've got a lot of waiting time. Waiting in the long line of cars for the kids to get out of school, waiting at the allergy dr, waiting while the kids are in various therapies of classes. So now I have tiny portable handsewing projects I take with me in the form of doll clothes. Satisfies my costuming mojo and my boredom in waiting in one fell swoop.

Me too.

DOH! I'm a terrible, terrible speller. Little H is a particularly good one which means my 7 year old can already out-spell me. ;P

I'd been wanting a doll to costume for a LONG time, and just never found one I thought was "right" so this has been a long time coming! :)

Oh and most of the dolls I've gotten have been second hand so the wait was days vs months.

Thanks! Now that Emma's got her head back (finally!) I've started work on a polonaise for her to go with the quilted petticoat I made.

So cute! I love the doll sized stuff you have been making recently. Have you been doing it by hand or machine? (I hate sewing tiny stuff on machine, which is why I ask.)

I've been doing most of it by hand. I've found it's actually easier for my by hand, partially because some of the curves are so small.
